Code of Ethics
All counsellors at GCS adhere to and work within the British
Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical
Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
This framework concerns the confidential nature of the counselling
process and other matters of ethics and practice.
Professionalism
Great care is taken as to what is offered in our name. All
counsellors are trained to professional standards.
Some will have undertaken thorough, extensive initial training
extending to a minimum of four years or will be in advanced
stages of this training. Others are fully accredited by BACP
while others are in the process of pursuing BACP accreditation.
Many of our counsellors are UKRC registered. All counselling
is supervised and all counsellors are commited to continued
in-service training.
Confidentiality
The confidentiality of the relationship between GCS and those
seeking help is fully protected. All personal information
disclosed to a counsellor is confidential to GCS. No information
will be disclosed to a third party without prior permission
from the individual concerned except in exceptional cases
of legal obligation.
GCS holds limited factual information about clients on computer
to assist our administration and statutory obligations. This
does not compromise the confidentiality of any individual.
All records whether in paper or electronic form are kept in
secure and safe storage.
Equal Opportunities
GCS is positively commited to opposing discrimination. We
recognise that there are processes inherent in any organisation,
including our own, which can work against this intention.
We acknowledge therefore that we have an obligation to be
constantly re-examining all aspects of our policy development
and implementation.
We will aim to ensure that as far as is possible, equality
of opportunity is available to all who work within or use
its services.
Complaints
GCS operates a Complaints Policy. Complaints should be in
writing, addressed to the Chief Executive and will be dealt
with in accordance with the Complaints Procedure, a copy of
which is available on request.
