The Gloucestershire Counselling Service (GCS) provides
a counselling service to people living in Gloucestershire.
The aims of the Service are:
- to provide high quality, individual and couple counselling
at affordable cost to the people of Gloucestershire and
surrounding areas
- to provide high quality, professional counsellor training
to the community of Gloucestershire
GCS was established in 1980 and has grown into the major provider
of general counselling and counselling training in Gloucestershire.
We have over 65 counsellors who are professionally trained
in the psychodynamic approach to counselling.
Our
large premises in the centre of Stroud occupies two floors
and offers numerous comfortable counselling rooms and 3 training
rooms. It is also our main administrative centre. We also
offer counselling in other venues across Gloucestershire including
Cheltenham, Gloucester, Tewkesbury, Almondsbury, Cirencester
and the Forest of Dean.
GCS is a member of the WPF National Network of Counselling
Centres which forms the largest general counselling service
in Britain; members of the Network work to high standards
of service delivery and good counselling practice. As a member
of the Network we retain independent identity but benefit
from membership to an organisation which has accrued nearly
30 years experience of running counselling services and training
counsellors. WPF Counselling and Psychotherapy takes a leading
role in the development of all aspects of national policy
regarding counselling.
GCS
is an organisational member of the British Association for
Counselling and Psychotherapy and work to their national standards
and Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and
Psychotherapy.
The Gloucestershire Counselling Service is a BACP Accredited
Service.
